I'm thinking of buying a laptop and the iPad 2 through Apple's online store. If I have problems with the units, can I exchange or return them through one of Apple's physical brick and mortar store?

Yes. Parallels allows you to use the Bootcamp partition as a virtual machine. Create a new VM, and you will see an option to use Bootcamp as the VM disk. I believe it's described fairly well in the Parallels documentation.
Sweet. I will give it a try and post an update. Thank you for your time.

Export your video via Quicktime export in Final Cut (Go to Export and click QuickTime on the top of the list) -> Use the ProRes Settings.
After this, open up Apple Compressor and take the iPhone 4 preset to compress your ProRes file into a much smaller file (around 1GB).
This will allow you to watch it on AppleTV, iPhone 4, Quicktime, etc...

I think your suspicion is the best candidate for investigation.
Copying executables may cause your anti-virus software to see red. They could also have viruses, which may not be picked up on your Mac.
Also check your permissions, as a root directory is not a common place to copy things in a modern set-up unless you're the admin of the machine.

I'm looking for a program to convert avi files to mpeg. The videos are very choppy when tr ying to view on the computer. I want to convert, and then burn them, so I can watch them.
Versiontracker turned up alot of software that can do it, but I'm broke right now. I need a free solution.
You will be wanting to convert them to mpeg1 if you are playing them on a 300mhz G3 as in you sig. The only free mpeg1 converter i know off is Movie2mpg the software give the link http://www.win.ne.jp/~juan/ but its not working right now. If you want the file on cd you could use toast and burn them as VCD, VCDs are mpg1.

I had the same issue regarding vpc image size. The vpc image does not decrease in size even after you delete files or uninstall programs. The vpc image only grows in size it does not dynamically get smaller.
You will need to manually reduce the size of the vpc image with this procedure:
This procedure is for Windows 95, 98, NT 4, and 2000 guest operating systems.
Be sure to backup any important data before beginning procedure, as this directly changes the guest image contents.
1. Defragment the guest OS hard drive.
2. Backup any critical data in the guest OS.
3. Download Eraser, (http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/) and install it in the guest OS.
4. Run Eraser in the guest OS.
5. Select Edit->Preferences->Erasing
6. Select "Unused Disk Space"
7. Select "New"
8. Enter the description "Blank"
9. Select Add
10. Create a 3-byte pattern of zeros. On the "Custom Method Editor" window, near the bottom you'll see "Pattern" and underneath that, will be "Byte 1" (with 8 zeros), then "Byte 2" with a checkbox by it, and a greyed out "Byte 3". When you check the "Byte 2" box, the "Byte 3" will no longer be greyed out and you can then check it, thus creating a 3 byte pattern of zeros.
11. Hit Save
12. Select "Blank" under "Unused disk space"
13. Hit Ok
14. Select File->New Task
15. Select "Unused space on drive"
16. Select Local Hard Drives
17. Hit OK
18. Select Task->run on the previously created task
19. When finished, close the report
20. Exit Eraser and shutdown the guest PC. Make sure the guest is not in a saved state.
21. Use Virtual Disk Assistant on the Mac to reclaim lost space. Pressing "command+d" will start Virtual Disk Assistant.
22. Select Examine or modify existing disk image, and click the right arrow to continue.
23. Click Select Disk and browse to the location of the disk image to compact. Generally, this will be the Virtual PC 4 folder.
24. Double-click the disk image and click the right arrow to continue.
25. Select Reclaim zeroed drive space and click the right arrow to continue.
26. Click Reclaim Space.
Hope this helps.

30 August Tuesday - put in an order for over 2000 (which included an iPod and 20" iMac) of goods and was cleared for 10 months interest free credit by MBNA
6 September Tuesday - had heard nothing and in the mean time decided to change some items on the order. Was told that I would have to cancel and begin with a new order and would have to speak to MBNA again. Tried to re-order but got tired of waiting.
7 September Wednesday - decided that I would attempt to re-order. Was successful.
8 September Thursday - received MBNA agreement for my original order that had been cancelled, so tore it up and through it away.
9 September Friday - received MBNA agreement for my second order, signed it and posted. Also contacted the Apple Store to inquire about a confirmation email as I had not received one. Was told that I would get one once finance was agreed.
12 September Monday - received an email, so I assumed all was well and that I might get a delivery by the end of the week.
22 September Thursday - having waited nearly two weeks I telephoned to inquire about my order. Was told that finance had not been agreed. I explained all of the above. Was asked to be patient for 24 hours before canceling as the finance department was not open. The Apple Store would get back to me. I gave my mobile number and it was agreed that a message would be left on my voicemail the next day.
23 September Friday - the next day - heard nothing.
No new iMac. Disappointed and upset. Am I being unreasonable? Do I cancel? :(

never had a problem with my white 3gs - 18 months of use
have just installed Power Support anti glare on the white 4 and looks great, you cant even notice its on, where as on the black it gave a grey-ish shadow to the phone when not in use!

I'd like to download the keynote to my HD so I can put it on my iPod touch and not have to stream it if I want to watch it. I have QuickTime Pro, but I can't really find a way to download it in a non-streaming format. How do you download it?

I got my iPod Touch 3g from some lucky draw. Now the earphone has some problems like the volume control not working, the mic has problems and etc.
If it is still under AppleCare (1 year warranty or extended) and you live near an Apple retail store, drop in. The headset is covered under the warranty and they will replace it free of charge.

My cousin's iHome randomly stopped working a few days ago. It still charges her iPod touch but the screen on the iHome is blank and music plays through the iPod's speaker instead of the iHome's speakers. Does anyone know if this is fixable or is the thing dead? It's an iHome iP90 if that helps. I tried searching but I couldn't find anything.

Hi all,
I'm looking for a software solution to work on scanned pages containing images and text. I want to be able to edit the text and the images easily.
I have a Canon DR-2010 and use Readiris 12 for OCR, but I can't export to Pages.
Should I go for Office for Mac or Photoshop or ...?
Anybody out there having done that?
Thanks.
Claus

What about the UPC codes, would I need them if I wanted to bring the computer into an Apple Store or something?

I was kind of dancing around this in my other post, but it is now (finally) dawning on me that I don't fully understand the process for backing up.
I'll be shooting on a Canon XF100. The codec is MPEG-2 Long GOP as MXF.
After shooting, back at the hotel, my plan is to import the footage I shot that day to a MBP. I believe I'll be able to import and view the footage via the XF utility software that accompanied the camera.
Is in then as simple as exporting the files in their native format to an external drive? Then worry about transcoding to something more FCE/FCP friendly later? Or, would I need to do something else to them at the time of transfer.
I think I'm essentially looking for the MBP to act as a temporary bridge between the camera and offloading to the drive.
Sorry if this is a total noob question and I will be conducting some tests before I leave, just want to make sure I'm on the right path.
Thanks.
