I loved the first Portal and The Orange Box, but $50 for Portal 2 seems kind of steep to me.

I feel the same way. Just wait a while. There will be sales and It'll go down in price in time. Valve is good about this, unlike say Nintendo. I'll be getting it then myself.

It would probably be better if you never posted here again.

Just because you and I don't agree with him is no reason to be rude.

Let's back up for a moment. Why are screens in landscape mode to begin with? Because the CRTs, which were meant for video were. [see: RF modulator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF_modulator)] Mainstream computer screens should have mimicked books, newspapers, and documents rather than televisions, but that's not how it played out. So, unconsciously we adjusted to text in landscape. Kind of stupid, really.

Then came the laptop. Well, a landscape display continued to seem logical 'cause the keyboard was wide. Awesome!

And now we have tablets. Finally, a device in the proper book/newspaper/document orientation. But look! You can rotate it to view multi-media! Perfect! My twenty year wait is over! Wait, what? It's gonna run iOS instead of Mac OS X? Genius!

Laptops have always been a compromise, and thus the choice has always come down to personal preference. Please stop arguing that one is better than the other, because as some of us have been trying to tell you, you'd be wrong.

Wow, I think this is really interesting but i don't agree with you. I think the wider screen is the best option, I don't know why... You say you read from your iPad while it's in the same orientation of a page... I NEVER do that, I much prefer the wide orientation... So I guess it's comes down to some kind of unconscious preference... And maybe it's the same thing that make me comfortable on a 11" macbook air...

not running connect360, but just got it to work.

Did a full shutdown and restart and now seems to be working. I feel quite foolish for not having tried that before posting.

Sweet saw my youtube video linked on 9to5mac. Figure I'll post it here.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ6zvhlse5o

Runs great on MBP specs in sig, v-sync to prevent any screen tearing which I noticed when it was hitting 120+ FPS. Sync'd to 60 with triple buffer, looks smooth as eggs.

I loved the first Portal and The Orange Box, but $50 for Portal 2 seems kind of steep to me.

Not sure if the promo is still on, if you're in the US, Bestbuy.com had Portal 2 for $35 for PC/Mac. If not just wait for the PS3 owners to toss up their Steam codes on eBay for cheap.

... but after seeing these video presentations, serve me a plate of crow and I can't wait until June. This is very, very impressive. Still lots of questions, ie Color, Motion, hell lets throw in Shake while we are at it. I'm assuming there will be other apps in the family to show up but this is quite impressive to say in the least.

Are you just making this up as you go along? The lid on the 13" MBA is no thicker than the 11" AND it has thinner bezels. I also fail to see how thinner bezels would have any effect on the keyboard size or the number of USB ports.

From a mechanical strength standpoint, the wider bezel may be necessary. It would be a nightmare for Apple to release such a thin laptop screen if users had to worry about it cracking under normal use. With time, new thin screens may be developed that need less support.

I can't imagine Apple would have made the bezel any bigger than necessary. Maybe with the SB or IB release they will expand the screen sizes (with smaller bezels). That is my hope! That would call for an immediate upgrade from my standpoint. :)

I have no problem with England winning the series but I would rather watch a game.

I think Australia will be hard pressed to win from here but like I said before, a win from the dressing rooms is no fun for cricket lovers.

anyone else get an insanely loud noise just before the instal?

Yeah I think I got the same ridiculously loud noise. I followed the instructions that said hold the power button down until the sleep light started flashing and then this huge "BEEP" came out of the laptop and I jumped backward.

They have about a hundred of these test cars and trucks across the country, if I recall the business articles about them correctly.

And because their tests include competing networks, Verizon probably has one of the most accurate coverage maps for everyone.

As far as the iPhone app goes, I think it's a great idea for carriers without test vehicles and/or to see where the most desire for extra coverage is.

Edit: Here's a 2005 article (http://www.mobiletracker.net/archives/2005/04/04/verizon-wireless-hear-me-now)about a test car setup, with pictures of the car and test rigs at the bottom.

All the carriers have these mobile test vehicles with their equipment and competitors.

it's funny how people say it's just a phone. It's not that its just a phone its the PRINCIPAL of it.

It's like a store owner who catches someone who steals a canned good that costs .98 cents. Most store owners would prosecute that person to send a message.

Same thing with the iphone. Is it okay because it's just a phone that a trade secret should compromised? Obviously some people on this board don't understand how competitive the industry is.

And as for this hurting Apple i doubt it really makes apple look like "The man" Maybe some geeks will feel that way or some people who want a reason to dislike apple.

But Apples sales are still at an all time high. The AAPL stock is high so im getting a great return. And i wouldn't compare Apple to some Orwellian creation.

A Company that is attempting to protect it's intrests is not evil. However a person who profits from Theft by monetary gain or in this case a Journalistic scoop is evil. Gizmodo is Reaping what it Sowed.

Apple told Congress that the GPS info to "analyze traffic patterns and density" (which I too, originally took to be about signals, not navigation) is only sent to Apple every 12 hours. Hardly realtime data.

So right now, it could simply be data collected as test info to help developers more realistically simulate traffic during code testing.

But wouldn't they need to take into account all the other 3G data devices on using the cells at the same time?

However, I somehow get the feeling that makes me doubt its inclusion in any of apple's new products in 2007.:(

As a grain of salt, readers are reminded that Apple routinely patents technology that never makes it into shipping products.

Well it does mention that apple doesn't use all the things it patents, so it's possible we'll NEVER see this used.

Glad to see some robust competition...will only keep Apple honest and innovative.

This entire scenario is playing out like Windows / MacOS part 2 -- the vertically integrated MacOS (hardware + OS coming from same source) is beaten into obscurity by the OS that is available on a multitude of devices from many different manufacturers.

Every percentage point that Android ticks higher -- every million more Android customers that sign on due to BOGOs and heavily subsidized phones -- makes their customer base the more enticing one to develop for.

This type of competition won't keep Apple "honest and innovative" -- it'll just lead to what we saw before in the 80s and 90s: top software going to the competing platform with Apple grabbing at scraps.

i seriously effing hope it's more than improvements to file sync'ing, spotlight, and virtual desktops. that's pathetic. we need a revolutionary OS revision.
"Revolutionary" was the switch from OS 9 to OS X. It's unrealistic to expect that for 10.5.

But I agree, I'm hoping for more in terms of UI enhancement and consistencey, along with increased functionality in the OS and it's native apps.

Why would they be kidding? I would guess that most NLE users rely heavily on the viewer and setting in/out points.

And like Keith said, I'm sure the viewer will be there in some form.

I wish somebody would take a photo of the dock connector and the headphone jack to see if those are white as well (they should be).

If it's anything like Apple's other white products, every part will have a different shade of white after a while.

Exactly. It's really funny to me when self-professed Greenies buy these electric cars in the name of saving the earth. Where do you think that electricity to charge up your car comes from? Well, if you live in the US, it's most likely coal. So your electric car is actually a coal powered car. lol.

That is true. However, the potential efficiency is higher with electrics or plug-in hybrids. Thus, they have the potential to pollute less even when the electricity comes from a coal-fired power station.

There's no carbon-neutral solution out there, unless Toyota starts planting a million trees for every Prius they sell. But electrics and hybrids are generally cleaner.

No, you don't. Renewable bio-fuels like biodiesel are the way forward. Not clumsy inefficient electric cars that only go 80 miles at a time.

Increased biofuel production causes food prices to skyrocket. That pretty much guarantees that biofuels will be a niche market for the forseeable future. They are great if you are the only person in town filling up his or her Merc diesel from restaurant oil - but when everyone wants to do it there just isn't anywhere near enough fuel.

Do you want to know what the "way forward" really is? Drive less. There isn't enough energy in the world for everyone to tool around in their cars as much as they do now. But nobody wants to believe it.

i have no idea though ... it is even more funny because i actually know the person who registered that new Chrysler Voyager (he is using for his business).
if you are interested i can easily post the rest of the numbers

Now I'm curious; what's the best selling brand? Funnily enough, my family used to have a Voyager years ago. It was actually a very solid van, if a bit crude. We don't get the diesel option in the US though, so we had to make do with a gasoline 2.4L with 20mpg. :(

I saw this story this morning, and thought it was one of the stupidest reports I've seen in awhile. You could either track some random person who has the device for a few feet, or blow $20 to 'plant' one in someone's backpack. Never mind the rest of the money you'd be spending just to have devices nearby to pick up the signal. This story ranks up next to 'German police battle giant parrot' in importance.

    Edit: 100th post! I'm a regular now!
