I have a relative in a hospital, He is going to be a long time recovering so he brought in a notebook computer and can (almost) access the hospital WiFi. He can't reposition their access point, can't get a wired connection. He does get WiFi but it drops out frequently because the signal is weak. Apparently their system is designed to only cover common areas and hallways and he is about 40 feet away from a reliable signal.
So I'm thinking of a hardware fix. Perhaps a WiFi to Ethernet bridge that can use an external antenna and then we aim the antenna at the access point? I think we need to improve reception to make it reliable
What to get?

Spyder 2 Pro, color consistency on oyur screen and printer is just great!!! no more color disasters. Plus is really easy to use. If you do graphics is a must have tool, like a wacom tablet.

Thanks, I've just ordered it
Just gotta work out how to clone my old hard drive to it when it arrives so I don't have to faff around re-installing everything
I don't have a SATA caddy so wonder if I can clone my existing drive to an external then clone it back with the new, blank drive installed in the machine...is this do-able?
Yes, that works if the external HDD is using "Mac OS Extended" as format and "GUID" as partition scheme. But USB enclosures for 2.5" S-ATA HDDs can be had for 10 €.

In one of my views I have an instance of UIWebView that loads a page with a Google Maps Form (Here (http://fadeproofonline.com/mobile/map/hbg.html)). When submitting the form in Safari, the Maps application will open with directions. When opening inside of my UIWebView, it will display Google Maps Mobile directions.
I've tried to change the User Agent of the browser so that it would think Safari was submitting the form, that didn't work. Then I tried Method Swizzling to change the user agent, which also didn't work.
Any idea how to open Maps when submitting my form within UIWebView?

Those "Divx" codecs those sites want you to download and install are not meant for Mac OS X, but for Windows. The download site is not even the official Divx site, so it is safe to assume, that the "Divx" they offer you is shady and maybe even ridden with some kind of Windows malware, therefore you can't watch those videos.

Just need confirmation of this:
I have 6Gb of Apple supplied memory that was in my Mac Pro.
I'm planning on making an Un-Raid server with AMD Athlon chips.
For ECC to be enabled the DIMMs have to be un-registered and un-buffered.
I know they are un-buffered, but if they are un-registered is the issue.
I gather sub 8Gb sticks are un-registered, but 8Gb+ are?
Given that these are 2Gb sticks (3x2Gb) are they registered or not!?
Cheers!

Thanks!
Well, I have 8GB of RAM so is OS even an issue? My biggest concern is the fact I'll have it running the majority of the day and I pretty much have 0 experience with Parallels and how hard it will work my machine.
I am actually leaning towards Windows 7 now since I sometimes like to Boot Camp over to play some games and the Direct X support is nice. Just want to make sure I am making the right choice >.<

I've upgraded my Beige G-3 as far as I think it can be, to OS 9.2.2 and I would like to be able to run the OSX Panther I bought. Any tips?
Also, can't Apple come out with an upgrade "kit" for all of us who have kept the old dinosaurs running all these years??
Thanks for helping this newbie to the forum.

I plan on being at the Salem, NH event.
I'll be there! Say hello if you notice a short-haired reddish-blonde guy in his mid-twenties wearing a grey cable-knit half zip sweater.
I'll have my black camera bag slung around me as well.

How long have you had the computer, and how long has it been acting this way? Did it start after you changed any Hardware or Software on it?

got it.
the problem was that XAMPP was not adding the password i had used for the user that i had created.
i figured this out when i was able to log into the table thru workbench with the user - so long as i didn't supply the password.
so i ran the xampp security to enable/add passwords, then deleted/recreated the db and user and used workbench to check that everything was fine.
oddly, however, the mysql.default_socket = /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/mysql.sock part didn't work when i tried to create the tables. so i created a symlink:
sudo ln -s /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/ /var/mysql
and so far so good. i just wish XAMPP would have simply ran a normal installer that placed things where they were supposed to be and didn't do whatever it was they did which prevented the new user from having a password. just painful stupidity.

Have you tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964) or the Pram (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379). As for the cracking I would call up apple again and have them replace it.

I was wondering if I install windows 7 with boot camp if it will work with my MacBook Pro
also I wanted to Install ProgDVB (http://www.progdvb.com/progdvb.html)to work with it, is it compatible as well
Thank you hope to hear back from you :)

You really should help the hard working developers that put out the great apps for your iDevice. It really is sad that people are that cheap.

My Casio watch does that and for some reason there's still a bit of a delay while it turns back on. However, I don't know whether it's something inherent to the technology or whether it's just an implementation issue.

Growing up my father had a Macintosh IIcx and we later had a Macintosh 7500. I believe we had the mousepad as long ago as the IIcx. I always thought it came with the PowerMac but I guess this makes more sense. :)

I would create a new account on your computer so that there's a separate iTunes Library for your friend's phone. You don't want to plug the phone into your account with your Library or your iTunes may overwrite your friend's phone.
