^Awesome to hear, thanks for the update. It seems like an SSD is a no-brainer if one wants to do an upgrade. I've used a few SSDs in netbooks and some PCs and the difference always amazes me.
Planning on picking up a Mini at some point and putting an SSD.. looks like its quite the process. Wish it was easier to do in an iMac as well.

Who's gonna pay the dry cleaning bills for all the "brown trousers" on the Comair flight?
From now on, I'll have my seat belts on at ALL times while on a plane.

I would recommend a "Sold" prefix and a "Rescinded" prefix for the marketplace.
It's nice to be able to just mark as sold (and undo it in case someone backs out in the last minute). Rescinding happens too (since sometimes the market price isn't what you expect it to be or you changed you mind).

Poll Warz was interesting...
Along with the people who would spam the board just to attempt to have their name show up in every single post on the first page of a forum.
Some were actually pretty good at it and seemed like they made a half-hearted effort to make a coherent reply.
There was nothing resembling coherent thought in Poll Warz.

Sorry, I meant Oracle have discontinued their Oracle database for OSX.. the last release for OSX was Oracle 10g. Oracle is now 11g.
No, good point, Oracle probably shouldn't have bothered. Maybe it was a pet project for an internal developer that died on the vine?
Agreed - they aren't particularly pretty but since OO v3 things have got better with the use of Aqua. However, I'd rather them look ugly and have them not available on OSX at all...
My objection is that someone who won't or can't bother to put a little polish on an application to make it meet the :apple: HIG, probably won't put much effort into the platform-specific support issues that invariably crop up. Personally, if I wanted to run a Linux application I'd run the Linux OS. But I see where you're coming from.

how to post a pic?
Either link to one on the web placing the URL within the xxx tags (check the little yellow box above the reply field) or...
When posting a reply, use the 'Manage Attachments' function where it says 'Additional Options' just below the reply field you can upload a picture from your computer this way.

So recently I bought an iBook G4 1.33 GHz 12" in very good condition with a new genuine Apple battery and two genuine power supplies for € 150, not a bad deal I think.
Anyway, it has the stock Toshiba 4200 rpm hard drive and had 512 MB RAM when I purchased it. I've upgraded it to 768 MB RAM afterwards. At the moment it runs Tiger, but I think it's time to move on to Leopard mainly because ClicktoFlash for Tiger does not allow me to play YouTube videos with the QuickTime Player anymore and I can't find an alternative.
I've tried Leopard on it and it was not slow, but it felt not "smooth". I think the slow hard drive causes the pretty long app launch times and the sometimes sluggish feel.
Is it worth it to upgrade the hard disk to a modern 5400 rpm model, like the Samsung HM160HC? I don't do heavy duty stuff on the iBook, but when I use it I want it to run as fast as possible. Will this hard drive make Leopard run smoother?
I also plan on upgrading the memory to 1 GB, I can get a 512 stick from a friend.
What are your thoughts, is it a waste of money or will the upgrades make a noticeable difference? I have a retail Leopard dvd, so at least I don't have to buy that. ;)

I have a Blue/white G3 at home and I need to upgrade, but can't afford to get what I would really like (a G5). I have 21" apple monitor, keyboard and mouse. And, I use all the graphics software: Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Does anyone think this the lowest model of the mini macs is a good purchase for a couple of years? I know it will be out of date quicker than some of my other options. But, my monitor is really good, so I think I shouldn't go the emac or imac route. Any suggestions or thoughts out there? I appreciate it.
I have a Mini, and I love it. I am not a graphics guy, and can't attest to the Mini's power at photoshop, but I do push the Mini to it's limits from time to time. I would sugest going to the Apple store and using one to see if it works for you. I'm not sure what the specs are for your G3 Video card, but this is the only Achiles heal to the Mini. It sounds like the new units are shipping (soon, if not now), and I think they have upgraded video cards. This might be just what you need (until you can save $$ for a PM). If you buy the Mini, beef up the RAM- it makes such a difference in performance.

If you think you'll be playing the next pokemon(like after Black and White) or think you might want any other new games in the future, I'd say go for the 3DS...if you're buying new, the extra 70 or 90 dollars allows you to future proof your purchase.
For the battery life, the physical battery is larger on the 3DS, so the fact that its dyes quicker relates to power usage for 3DS games, for DS games, you can expect better battery life that the 3+hours for 3DS games.
But if you're buying used, go for a DS lite for like 70 dollars, then sell it once you beat Pokmon.

You'll probably get different answers but my opinion would be that unless the game requires it, don't upgrade to a later system.
^^^ I agree with this. I'm not a big fan of running 8.x on 68K hardware.
For vintage gear, I like to stick to OS versions close to what the Mac shipped with (if it were me, I'd downgrade the 575 to 7.1). Any non-rare Mac from the G3 down can be had for next to nothing these days, so if you have an app that requires 8.0, I'd go grab a machine more suitable to run it. Then again, I'm always looking for an excuse to bring home another machine. :p

Why wait in line...The Best buy in Citrus Park and the CompUSA in Brandon will both have Leopard without waiting. The will also have Apple Representatives on hand to answer questions.

Ok, this is the dynamic of the buyer:
-Oh, cool, I have the money but.... I can buy 2 of 19" or 2 of" 17" for that price. Of course I would need an special accesory to run a secund LCD accessory.
Some people are gonna buy that thing, there is a market for ir, but, just imagine the time spend closing the lots of windows.
I would buy one of those, would be like buying another computer. Now, I do not have the money for it, I may never have but there are companies with the resources to do it.

Haven't had experience with either kb; I heard mechanical keys are better for typing. Still, if you are looking for a nice keyboard, you could try the Kensington Slimtype. It's nice, and doesn't cost a lot.
Sorry for the short post; don't know what else I could say.
thanks for your reply. I heard that the kensington slimtype is similar to the icekey in the sense they are both scissors switch keys. However I cannot seem to find one in the uk for sale. :(

My guess is around $100, so it may be worth waiting for a little while. At this point, I personally won't be upgrading for a while, as I'm not a huge fan of what I have seen so far out of Lion.
That's what I thought, if waiting a week or two can save me a couple of bucks, then its worth the wait.

It appears to be dead. Does anyone know when it will be relaunched?
I think they might have spent all their time and energy on the press release at the top of this thread, and didn't have anything left for the site itself. :p

A lot of electronics have a funny smell when you first get them. Is the smell getting better or worse?
