Maybe someone who has it could start a framerate thread, where people could post their configs and results. That would be a nice reference for those needing perf data.

...(and a constant reminder for those of us weeping bitter tears because their rig is too feeble)

Lian Li Aluminum mATX Case with i7 2600k + USB 3.0 - SATA III - 1155 Mobo + HD 6970 2GB + Apple 27inch Cinema display. The ultimate Hackintosh for Gaming!

That chart simply proves that USA is #1!!!

I believe that culture has quite a bit to do with it - in American everyone is the most important person alive - we were raised that way. (you all get to be astronauts if you truly want to be) After all, we're all individual little snowflakes (just like everyone else).

Japan - their culture raises people in the belief to serve the greater good - and you're not an individual snowflake - but a key part of the higher order. Hence self sacrifice (Kamikaze pilots), ritual suicide when failures were encountered and utterly insane (by Western standards) work ethic.

So I'd factor in culture, decent health and economic equality, and sprinkle with very little ethnic diversity. Hey, it's ugly - but pointed out before (by the very bold or very stupid) - the less different you are from your neighbors, the more likely you are to get along with them.

Edit: I remember one story from when I was little - people from Japan visited my school to share their culture to those in my class. One of the stories they told us (occurred in the 80s) was of a man who snapped (pressure at work) and went to a bank and withdrew all of his savings. He then began to literally dump his money in the streets of Tokyo. People there realized something was wrong, and collected the money - called the police for help. The man was taken to a hospital - and all of his money was returned to him thereafter. I was all of 9 years old and completely blown away by the possibility that could happen. Obviously, as I remember this story many years later...

I've never understood why the iLife apps don't carry the same names and code base as the pro apps, just with an introduction level of features. So once someone gets hooked on one of the iLife Apps they can just move up the the chain.

Probably because the programs by in large do not share much with their pro counterparts ans other products are.

iMovie shares nothing in terms of use that compares to Final Cut Pro - the only program that does is Final Cut Elements.

Logic has little to do with GarageBand - The program that Apple offers that does is logic elements and it is very different program.

The iLife apps are completely different things and are not meant to have direct analogues with the prosumer versions.

ouch, my lab at binghamton, is filled with 17" 1.8 G5's with some ram to boot.

tho, something is amiss with the server situation, because logging on the machine for the first time takes forever. each time after that it's a breeze. but switch the computer and same thing. oh well, technology will be technology.

First, let me say that I think that there is a big issue with the iPhone 4 antenna, and I do think that Apple should do a recall (a voluntary one). I also think that Apple did a bad job handling the situation.

That being said don't you think that there was indeed a misrepresentation of the signal strength going in on with iOS 4.0 that was fixed with 4.0.1 that was exaggerating the problem? What if people that were able to go from 5 bars to 0 simply by touching the "forbidden place" were actually supposed to see 2/3 bars dropping to 0 instead?

Despite all the mistakes Apple made in this iPhone 4 snafu, I think it's fair that they address the fact that the problem was exaggerated by a misrepresentation of signal bars. (assuming that it's a fact)

What if you made a mistake and something made it look much worse than it is, wouldn't you want to show everyone that it's not as bad as it looked like? Even if it's your fault and that the mistake is still bad in itself?

I hope with the release of Leopard OS X doesn't require a reboot for updates or any sort. I'd also like to save my sessions upon shutting down. All the same windows open and in the same place as I left it. Another one would be a more GUI options for the firewall and perhaps an add-on for snort. I know third party tools exist, but I'd like it to be built into the OS. Widgets that can become part of the the desktop background, but not replace it. I'm sure I could make a huge list of improvements, but these are a few that I'd really like to see done.

If the iPhone is released the 12th, I really dont care exactly how it looks like or what it does, as long as I can make a call and play tunes, I will order it the second it is released.

Geez I love Apple too but I would actually care what the phone looks like and what it does. As far as you're concerned they could slap an Apple logo on a Nokia Engage and you would snatch that sucker right up. *L*

I disagree. I like how its seperate. What could you possibly need to sync between Mail and iCal anyways..... Event invties... ohh wait that works. I believe its better to have 3 seperate programs instead of entourage... that way you can be more efficient with your use. Like for instance, when I use my laptop in class I close Mail... cause I don't have Internet, but I still need iCal. So its perfect. I mean the only downside is that you have to click to open two apps. I don't see anything else. WHat can you integrate between the two other than contacts which is its own program.

I think its perfect how it is. I would love to see new features, new features are always great; I just can't think of any. Ohh I know one. Making things in iCal have links to documents so if a To-Do is to like finish a project.. u can link to the files so its all there, due date, importance, notes, location of files. And maybe they could work on the calendars (categories). Smart calendars would be nice. And more flexibility with calendars. I don't really see any other problems. I'm sure there are I'm just not that good at looking.

three independent apps are good if you are a single user. if you work in a corporate enviroment and people send you meeting invitations all the time. it's good to get them in your calender automatically, confirm that you go there requires mail anyway. check for schedule conflicts, mail attendee lists to participants, check somebody elses free time right from the mail program and so on. MS outlook is great for that. my guess is that you don't work in a business enviroment like that?

I can confirm the sale of white iPhone 4's here in Belgium at a couple of retail stores. Just picked up a 32gb model this afternoon.

After all, I prefer the black model. Anyone interested? :)

Because the press can latch onto anything that makes someone look bad and hammer on despite facts. The press do not have the same goals as Apple does - they want to sell a story. Apple is trying to sell a phone. If the press can sell a story that reveals a failure out of a successful company and get viewers in the process they will do it. The fact is, the media is not always limited by the facts. They sell controversy.

And that "fact" may not be an actual fact. The world is much larger than your own personal perception of it. This is the world that companies play in.

He can very well say that if people are making false assumptions about things.

But it is not a "false assumption" for people to say, "when my hand, my finger, my face, etc. come into contact with this antenna, the signal drops." That is neither false, nor an assumption. It happens, I can replicate it. So can many other people.

Do I know the reason for it? No. I have no idea the reason for it. I don't need to know the reason for it. I just know that it happens.

Hey how much will OS X Leopard cost?

I just bought my iMac C2D "17 two weeks ago, and I just didn't want to wait until Spring '07 to buy it with Leopard installed on it.

Does Apple offer an upgrade and full versions of the OS X.5?

It would be nice if they offered some type of discount for people who bought their Macs after a certain time frame (Like October '06).

Actually, they do have a discount. My roommate got tiger half price cuz his powerbook was bought less than 3 months ago or something. Just keep those papers and vouchers that came with your Mac.

My guess is .5 will be released when they are good a ready. Vista will be sucking the air out of the room for a couple months so Leopard would be lost in the heavy panting.

I don't know what .5 will bring (other then the announced features) but with all the work Apple did to get it on Intel I wouldn't be surprised to see a portable version of the OS on a cell phone (with all the pertinent apps) or ipod like device as well as portable home folders.

Anyone else remember when w95 was released? It took MS almost a year to start generating real sales. Most of that was due to the learning curve of the interface fears. Vista is a much larger leap GUI-wise and the new Office is even a larger jump. It is going to take a few months maybe a year before we see large Vista sales...prime time to convert people to something else.

My thougth is that the Apple intro will take the wind out of the Zune's press releases. So, how about 6G iPod introduction date = Zune Intro date + 7 days.

    Anyone?:p

7 days would be a strange amount of time to wait. Zune is released on the 14th of November. 7 days later, it will have already gotten all the press it's going to get. Releasing the day before, the same day, or even a day after would make a lot more sense. 14th is a Tuesday, so I say the same day, if at all (I think it's more likely we'll see it next year).
