MattG,
I stand corrected on a couple or your points. Again I'm mostly a developer and only dabble with admin.
Regarding the iNotes user issue. Their activity IS logged differently. You need to turn that on in the server document. On the interent Protocols tab you can Enable logging to text files and then review it with a standard application or to a notes database Domlog.nsf. It's likely done this way for performance reasons. A quick search on notes.net gave me this answer.
Regarding the last login time of a user, again it looks like you're correct regarding the person document. I did not find an immediate built in solution for this, which doesn't surprise me. Remember notes is more of a programming environment then a simple application. It's understood that if it doesn't do something out of the box you can build it yourself. If you don't like how mail works, change it or download a new template. If you need new views in the log database you can add them. If you want to track the last time a person hit's their e-mail database there are several ways to do that. Searching on Notes.net (2 forums) for "last login" or something similar will give you some ideas. If you activate the domlog.nsf database then you can write a little code, get the information you're looking for, and track it however you want. While it's not a built in feature, the fact remains that using the notes development tools you can do it yourself and you're not limited to how Lotus implements a solution.
Regarding the stupidity of the security solution.... In some Environments like the CIA and NSA which use notes, you simply don't want a notes administrator to be able to access peoples e-mails or other information that they shouldn't be able to get to. They need to administer the system but not all the data. Notes security solves this problem.
Now as you say you're a small college so you don't need this level of security. There's lots of posts and thoughts on ID management. Again if the user that was renamed wasn't using encryption then there is no issue as something can be recreated. the other was to go is to store the default id's in a "secure" place with the default passwords. But while convenient, this can cause problems.
However, I would say that if an administrator ever got caught reading the Dean's e-mails the school would quickly want to increase the security level. There's now a lot of laws regarding privacy...
Notes is not an end user solution. It's marketed to businesses and organizations. In my opinion, there should never be a notes environment that has an administrator but no developer. It can be one and the same, but someone really needs to know formula languge and lotusScript. With some development, you can write simple programs which do simple tasks.
As an alternative you might want to check openntf.org. It's a Notes Opensource site and has things like a new mail template, user administration tools, etc...

The male having a bruised ego because a lesbian isn't interested in him is just as cliche as the man-hating lesbian. I was being a bit sarcastic.
You should see the bruised ego when a gay man tells a straight man he's not attracted to him. Trust me, that one stings. For some reason, straight guys think we all think they're hot or something.
Straight boys, most of you stop being hot after 25-30, when you're married and you beer bellies have taken over, and instead of playing sports, all you do is watch them on TV (which, even if you continue to play, is about the time we start kicking your asses) :). Why would you think we would find that attractive? Most of you have nothing to worry about.

as a non-moderator but a very active member ... it is sometimes hard to discern what will be interpreted as a 'bad post' and what the on duty mod will let fly. i think i've only reported one post, but will always try to diffuse a situation before we involve 'the authorities'; unless im involved of course. :p
maybe i've just adopted bad posting habits ...
peace.
very active poster  under 1 post a day and under 1500 posts, ;) not quite very active in my view.
i'm sure ed will be a great mod, many a time my keyboard has been splattered with food when i almost choked laughing at pancake bunnys and melon cats :D.
i would consider ~6-8 posts a day very active which is what i hit last summer for a while :o.

It is seeming more and more likely that enhanced interrogation techniques (a.k.a. torture), provided information that allowed the U.S. to kill O.B.L.
I recall many on this forum criticizing these techniques claiming they never provided useful information.
What say you now??
And how exactly did murdering Bin Laden help us any? All he is now is a trophy for Obama's next campaign.

I too was disappointed with the keynote today.
The iPhone is a great device, but nothing that I'd buy. If they get rid of the phone capabilities and make it a real video iPod with wifi, I'd be all over it. Plus the whole cingular thing is a downer. On the whole though it was a good announcement for Apple and I'm sure it will revolutionize the cell phone industry.
The iTV is lame. All it is is a front row interface to your computer with a hard drive. Nothing really exciting there. Like others have mentioned, add in Web browsing, a DVD drive, the ability to record TV onto the hard drive, then maybe it would be worth the $300 price tag.
And removing Computers from the name makes sense, but it doesn't bode well for the computers part of Apple.
As for not having 10.5 info, I'm actually glad that they didn't. Vista is just out of the box. Let Vista cool off a little before Apple blows it out of the water. We don't want Microsoft stealing Apple's thunder with their 3-years-too-late OS. It'd be like if Apple released the iPhone right after the Zune thing came out.

There's no way to know really. The next update will probably be late this year or early next year. Might be a redesign, or not.

Maybe where you live. I tried it in La Jolla, CA with Terk TV5 and I just was able to get couple channels and very choppy.Yeah I have to move my Terk TV5 antenna every time I change the channel. It's not easy. Very sensitive to antenna position A LOT.Sorry Multimedia. I even joined your yahoo group and I was very excite about the possibilities of the EyeTV500. I just turned out to be not the way you said.
It works maybe for you, but in some cases like mine require way more than what your are just saying.
I am just trying to make sure people are not going through the same hassle and disappointment I had.
so be aware!Sorry. Off air recording is obviously a crap shoot. I do have to tweak the antenna every time I change channels. So there is a lot of baby sitting the antenna I have to do all the time. Digital Broadcast TV is both a blessing and a curse. I wonder if it's a conspiracy by the cable operators to force subscriptions.

Disappointed. Great for Wall Street and Steve's stock, but who's minding the computer side of the house? I think dropping the "Computer" from its name was the single most significant news of the show. What's next a new gaming console?
iPhone - revolutionary in that it raises the bar VERY high for other manufacturers...But it still smells like first generation to me. Behind the arguably flawless design, usability and performance issues are already being raised. Kudos to Steve and his enormously talented staff, but I'll pass on early adoption. But slick..oh so slick..No one is as good as SJ for coordinating such a project. Now let's see how it sells.
appleTV - mediocre offering at best. 40Gb is way too small to host any HD material. It just begs for an upgrade. Why should it be paired to a computer if it has a wireless connection to the internet? My Xbox360 already can and play HD games to boot!
- no news about MacPro (where's the eight core!)
- no news about laptops
- no update to iPod in the near future (iPhone notwithstanding of course, but what if I don't want or need the phone part?)
- Cingular exclusive deal has already alienated non-Cingular customers
- no new displays (HDCP compatibility)
- no "...and one more thing"
A significant watershed show nonetheless. I can understand the need to focus on the iPhone : there's so much to say about it and it would have surely stolen anything else's thunder. I'm just afraid the gadgets are taking over an AWESOME COMPUTER company and leaving all of us behind. Half the Genius bar at my local Apple store was replaced by an iPod Nano express line...hmm...I hope Apple knows what they're doing this time - remember the Newton!

I would love to see the crazy, interactive map of electronics lawsuits. There was a similar map posted here last year, and it was mind blowing. Everyone wants a leg-up. It's like a legal orgy.
