You come from a Windows world so this probably isn't it, but if you double click on the files, do they open immediately with the right application or do they give you a list of apps to choose from. Is there any chance that you've deleted the suffix (.doc) and OSX has forgotten what to do with it?
Also, by generic icon, do you mean the white-file-with-nothing-on-it icon for all the icon-less files?

They are made out of really soft foam that collapses easily.
I use a very small version of those rooms which is the shape of a box at work all the time to test the incoming CMU200s to screen them.

I've got Plex installed on my MacBook Pro. I'm using the iPad Plex app to stream mkv's from my library on my MacBook to my iPad connected via HDMI to my plasma TV.
1080p files are super jerky, and unwatchable.
720p files however, play perfect.
So I've set up a 1080p folder, and a 720p folder (for my iPad)
Essentially I'm using my iPad as an Apple TV.
I think the post above is correct. I don't think the iPad has the horsepower to handle 1080p
Great. I'm gonna have to try that Plex app. Didn't realize it was on the iPad. Would be cool if XBMC was an app but we know that's not going to happen with Apple.
Thanks for testing out the streaming of 1080p via HDMI adapter. Maybe by iPad 3 you'll be able to :p

I'm not sure if my topic makes sense, but is there anyway to run parallels without having to reinstall everything again? I have bootcamp setup so is there anyway to run this partition hard drive in parallels?
Does this even make sense?

cscope can be installed via MacPorts (http://www.macports.org/).
MacOS X comes with the BSD version of ctags. You can install Exuberant Ctags, which you're probably more familiar with, from MacPorts as well.
Most coding is done in Objective-C using XCode on Mac OS X. XCode also supports C and C++ development as well.
There's also Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org/) or Netbeans ( www.netbeans.org).
If you don't want a full on IDE, there's Text Wrangler (http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/), which is pretty popular with programmers.
Personally I use TextMate (http://macromates.com/), when I'm not using MacVim (also installable via MacPorts). If you're from the Emacs school, there's Aquamacs (http://aquamacs.org/). Or course, Terminal versions of both vim and emacs are preinstalled.

I was curious if any of you know if there is any external speaker attachment that would connect through the headphone port and provide sound? I have an iPod Nano 6g and thought it would be cool to listen to music while reading. My idea of a speaker would be similar to Switcheasy's Thumbtack, but a speaker rather than microphone. Let me know as I havbe searches all over the place!

That doesn't sound like a kernel panic if you were able to type at a prompt; it was most likely booting into the firmware...thats one place you don't want to be messing around unless you really know what you're doing...its like the BIOS of a pc

In all honesty, I was hoping for a little more than that. Let me ponder it.

Hi folks,
This is confusing me. I've done this before without issue, but I transferred 19 MiniDV tapes onto Mac using iMovie into DV format (while I edited another project on my other mac in FCP).
My client could only play some of the files on his Windows machine (win7) using Quicktime. Then he may have deleted Quicktime and now Windows Movie Maker has taken over and changed the default file opening so he can't open the others.
Yes, I do have a copy of the files on my computer.
I saw this suggestion from Apple's board, but I don't seem to have this option of dv-avi in Quicktime (7) Pro?
" Export "Movie to AVI" and use the DV Stream format.
This makes a .dv file inside and AVI container which will work with Movie Maker. "
Should I try exporting with QuickTime Pro as AVIs? Would that work on a PC?
Other clients have used the DV files so I'm a little confused why this client can't ?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers,
keebler

whenever i repair permissions (when updating osX .etc) the same permission always gets repaired. there may be others sometimes but this one is always there.
is this unusual?
i'll add the specific file permission once i do a repair.
ta. :)It would be nice if you stated which file always needs its permissions repaired. Afterall, there tens of thousands of files on each MacOS X computer. That said, there is a specific file whose permissions always gets changed during a permissions repair. IIRC, it has to do with ISO9600 CDs. At any rate, there is a short note in the Disk Utilities monitor window explaining why this file's permissions are what they are. It appears everytime this particular's file's permissions are repaired. All you have to do is read that note.

I am confused by your question. You mentioned having a problem with InDesign CS5 export to SWF, but then you mentioned creating a SWF inside Flash. Which one did you use?
If you were using InDesign CS5 to create the animation and exported them as a SWF, they should work just fine. Did you do anything else to that SWF (like embed it inside another SWF in Flash Pro) before uploading it to moodle?
