Ooops, yeah, late 2009. My bad.
So the speed improvements are mostly theoretical for my average use, but in the end I guess we all love the feeling of a brand new iMac …

dude. I would call and complain.
Right now (if they're still open, which I doubt.)
Make a huge stink. They scratched your $$$$$ Powerbook.
You spent a lot of money on it, and you shouldn't have it be manhandled by Apple.

but 'cause it never installed properly I never registered it properly so I don't think I can update but I'll give it another go.
EDIT: ok the updates seem to download fine, it used to be that you needed to register to get them so I'm downloading them now
but I did have an idea, if I put my old MBP into target disc mode can I use it's ports from my new machine???

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share my no budget (i.e. $0 dollars spent specifically on it) short film that I shot this weekend. It was filmed on the Canon 5D Mark II using a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens. We shot it in half a day in downtown Austin, TX.
I hope you like it!

... it looks like I 'contracted' some sort of malware/virus from the uni's (Windows) computer, when I plugged in my USB stick.
The file may exist on the USB drive but it can't infect your Mac or spread, because Windows apps, including malware, cannot run on Mac OS X. It's completely harmless to your Mac. You can easily reformat the drive to get rid of it. Sophos isn't recommended for Mac OS X, as it can actually increase your Mac's vulnerability. Read the following link for details. There has never been a virus in the wild that affects Mac OS X since it was released 10 years ago. The handful of trojans that exist can be easily avoided with some education and common sense and care in what software you install:

As of right now my Time Capsule is sitting on my desk in my office. A friend of mine had his house broken into and had everything stolen, it made me start thinking about protecting my data. I am thinking about running cable and power to my closet and putting my Time Capsule in there. The closet is in the middle of a small house (1600 sq ft ranch), think I will have any signal issues? See any downside to doing this?
Thanks!
Unless your closet is made of bricks I doubt you'll have any problems. Even then it would probably be ok. Either way, you'll know right away.

That sounds about normal. Nothing to worry about. The warranty is based on the serial number of the phone and not the owner. :)

I think I'm just going to take a risk and stop by this one later in the day (or at least call around 10 and see if they ran out...my guess is they won't have). If they're out, I can try the one on University as well as the ones in the city since I have to go back up eventually anyway.

Are you dragging the app icon to your Applications folder before you double-click them? Or are they install packages that you need to launch, in order to install the app? Can you give an example of an app you're trying to install?

I use a lot of Adobe CS5 tools, like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom and After Effects, I would say mostly Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
I do not have a lot of options for Mac OS X 10.6.7, it could be ATI Radeon HD 5870 or NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac.
I know that the only CS5 application that will really use the CUDA capabilities of the Quadro card is Premiere Pro, all the other applications will use OpenGL.
Based on some quick test I've seen the ATI is around 30% faster in OpenGL than the NVIDIA card.
Any recommendation ?, thanks

I have been working with Aperture 3 for a while. It occasionally freezes or crashes, but otherwise all is well.
Today however the 'adjustment' panel suddenly went empty: all I can see now are the drop down buttons for 'Presets' and 'Adjustments'.
I am not in 'Quick Preview'.
I have repeatedly restarted my computer.
I have restarted Aperture.
I have deleted Aperture preference files in the library.
I have repaired the Aperture library database.
Still no luck.
Any polite suggestions?
Thanks.

hey all,
*i am* not actually selling this on MR, but a friend of mine wanted to know what a fair asking price for this would be. given it's two years old and its battery life is not what it used to be, what would a good price be? i figured my smart mac friends would know, even though this IS MR lol. thanks in advance.

Does it exist? If so, can someone give me a link? I'm getting a 233mhz G3 PM and want to put it to work.
For a baseline I installed and ran it under OS 8.6 on a 8600/200 PPC. This computer did nothing but crunch for 72 hrs to complete one work unit. So it does work, just real slooow. By the way, your 233 Mhz will take about 24 - 26 hrs to complete a unit. I have a B/W G3/300 that takes 22 - 24 hrs per unit. I also run two G4/450 that are crunching for 12 -14 hrs per unit. My son runs a eMac 1.25 Ghz take crunches a unit in about 7 - 8 hrs. An observation, I think SETI runs better in OS X than OS 9, slightly faster I think. Try it, the worst that can happen is it won't work but try it. My 2 cents.

what mic do you have, what interface do you have, how did you hook it up?
a USB wouldn't work with an interface, those have the "interface components" built-in, which is why it hooks up straight to the computer.
